The Software Testing Dinner on September 18, 2024, in Zurich, brought together industry leaders like Wolfgang Platz (Founder Tricentis) and Richard Seidl, who shared their expertise on the latest trends and challenges in software testing.
Participants engaged in lively Q&A sessions and deep discussions over a three-course dinner, exchanging best practices in a relaxed, professional setting.
Many attendees valued the opportunity to expand their professional networks and gain fresh insights into the evolving world of software testing.
"GenAI is rapidly revolutionizing software development. Future copilots will not just write code but also create test cases and drive automation forward."
"I never would have expected Tricentis to
become this successful!"

"I'm not a fan of weekly retrospectives either, but taking the time to sit down and collectively question what we're actually doing and whether it still fits is a huge lever to align the team on quality."
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and, at the same time, make exciting new connections.
In a cozy setting during the three-course meal, it was the perfect opportunity to network and discuss various perspectives on technology, software testing, and market developments.

In his presentation, Wolfgang Platz shared some genuinely fascinating insights into the future of software testing.
He emphasized how significantly GenAI and automation will transform the industry and how crucial it is to use these technologies smartly to boost test efficiency.
He also touched on how we can reuse and optimize test processes to save costs and ensure quality in the long run.
- Convergence:
RPA, software test automation, and business process monitoring will converge.
GenAI:
In the future, GenAI won't just generate code but will also create test cases. This development opens up entirely new possibilities for us in QA, improving our work's quality and speed.
Image-Based Test Automation:
Image-based test automation will sooner or later take the lead. Progress hasn't been as fast as expected, especially with complex controls. Based on specifications, bots will eventually be able to interact with applications just like real users.
What Wolfgang Platz has moved:
His career path was unplanned. Initially aspiring to work in aeronautical engineering, he shifted to Technical Physics and later Business Administration due to limited demand in Austria in the 90s.
He eventually found his passion in software development at Capgemini, where he recognized the impact of software testing.
He revolutionized the field with the development of Tosca and founded Tricentis in 2007. Tricentis grew to become Austria's first unicorn, employing over 1,000 people with more than $300 million in revenue.
Today, Wolfgang Platz mentors startups through Katharo Ventures, sharing his leadership philosophy.
In his talk, "Quality as a Mindset," Richie Seidl highlighted how profoundly software shapes the modern world and what key competencies are necessary to succeed in this constantly evolving environment.
He emphasized that quality is not just a technical requirement but a mindset that must be integrated into all levels of development.
1. Mastering the Basics:
Fundamental testing techniques, such as static analysis and test types, form the foundation of every successful software development process.
2. Get Moving:
Modern tools and methods, such as Continuous Integration (CI), API testing, ATDD (Acceptance Test Driven Development), and Machine Learning, must be part of every development process to remain agile and competitive.
3. Personal Development:
Personal growth is essential to embody quality as a mindset. Courage, empathy, and resilience are key while overcoming negative patterns like fear of rejection is crucial.
Where Richard Seidl's approach comes from:
Richie Seidl is a consultant, speaker, and podcast host who has encountered a wide range of software throughout his career: the good, the bad, the big, the small, the new, and the old.
He believes that creating exceptional software requires a holistic approach to development, encompassing people, their environment, techniques, and tools. Only through the harmonious integration of these elements can a climate for realizing potential and driving innovation emerge.
He is a sought-after keynote speaker, author of eight books, and runs a successful podcast on software testing.
Tobias hosts the regular software testing events in Zurich, offering you a great platform to connect and chat with like-minded people in the testing community.
It’s a chance for the QA community to build valuable collaborations and strengthen your network.
What drives Tobias Müller:
With progile Tobias realized his dream more than 11 years ago to offer efficient IT consulting according to high standards and manages projects from CHF 50'000 to 160 million.
His goal is to help shape modern development methods and drive software quality.
With his distinctive expertise, high-quality standards, and drive, he revolutionized the testing market with the testing platform TestResults.io.
He did not simply make existing things different, but together with his team brought a technologically new perspective to the subject.
